Main Street before Rusticana was built, circa 1980
Rusticana opened its doors in 1978 at the Wood location (formerly the Sherwood House). Common folklore would have it that the business was named after a ski cabin in Banff where some hard core ski bums rested after a long day in the mountains. Rusticana moved to its current location in 1982 and has been providing great customer service for all of those years. It was a true general store in years gone by with fishing licenses, bait and tackle. The current owners took over in 2013. Long time locals, Christine and Jason de Soto, were in the market for a new venture when Rusticana came into their lives. They saw in Rusticana this gathering place of community, the hub of town, and envisioned a family run corner store like the ones they shopped in as children. Although Rusticana no longer sells fishing supplies, it is what it always has been; a place for school kids to get a slushy and some candies, a fun place to buy your lotto ticket, a place to browse our extensive magazine selection, the tourist stop for postcards and funky t-shirts, the store you can depend on to be open late when you need some emergency children's advil, the first place you go in the morning when you realize you are out of milk and eggs for breakfast. But the store is so much more now with a strong focus on our locally made foods in town. Click on 'Our Local Suppliers' to learn more about them and what they stand for. Come in and say hi to our friendly staff, some of whom are our children, pick up your morning newspaper, have a coffee and start your day off right. Rusticana is "Your corner store with more".
